at Cinespace
Hollywood, CA.
When I received the invite for Josh Todd’s record release party I hesitated. I wasn’t a big Buck Cherry fan, so it was a debate. I finally decided, “What the hell. Everyone deserves a chance, right?” Right.
The line had not yet formed in front of Cinespace, but the red carpet and red ropes were waiting. It was obvious that the hosts—Rock & Republic, Razor Magazine, and Josh Todd—weren’t messing around. Once inside we knew we were in the right place. The club was packed with porn stars, supermodels, and rockers and, for some reason, 80’s fashion reigned supreme. Everyone was here to check out Josh’s new project and hear tracks off the group’s debut release, You Made Me.
A few minutes before showtime I peeked my head outside for some air. Josh Todd passed me on my way down the stairs and I thought, “The man looks like a rock star, how could he not play music?” When I reached the front door it was chaos. The line that was non-existent an hour ago, now wrapped around the block. Obviously, this was the place to be.
Josh Todd, not to be confused with Josh Todd the singer, is an actual band, which happens to be fronted by Josh Todd (ex-Buck Cherry vocalist). By chance Josh Todd (the singer) stumbled across a band—Mike Hewitt and Jesse Logan (guitars), Mark John (bass), and Kent Ross (drums)—in need of a vocalist, and they figured his name was cooler than the one they had, so there you have it.
Josh is a born natural on stage and the chemistry between the members is tight. They’re lean and mean like a good Hollywood band should be and their songs are gritty, groovy, and upbeat. The audience was diggin’ it and rock fans will too. -NIN
