Before heading off on their big national tour Lit played an intimate little show at
The Roxy in Hollywood. We knew the
place would be packed, so we got to the club early. Not necessarily to ensure a primo spot for Lit, but to check out Handsome Devil. Lingering outside was a number of industry
buffs. Also wondering around, like a
lost puppy, was ex MTV VJ and wannabe rocker/hipster Jesse Camp. Jesse’s eyes
pleaded for someone to recognize him and squeal for an autograph, but sadly his
fifteen minutes of fame are beyond expired. The BM squad left Jesse in his pathetic state and headed
into the club to party with Handsome
Devil and their adoring fans, A.K.A. The Hellions. To fully appreciate Handsome Devil you have
to see them live. To say these guys
put on an energetic show is an understatement.
Their set is loud and decadent, like the members themselves. The band’s employment of punchy guitar riffs
and catchy pop structures make an immediate and powerful impact on the
crowd. Their music is catchy enough to
inspire mass sing-a-longs, especially such power punk-pop anthems as “Makin’
Money,” “Sorry Charlie,” and “Bring It On.“ The members of Handsome Devil—Danny Walker (vocals/guitar), Billie Stevens (guitar), Darren Roberts (bass), and Keith Morgan (drums)—exude a lot of confidence on stage. They churn out a very colorful performance and make the audience feel involved. If you’re looking for a fun and interactive live show, I suggest you check these guys out. -NIN |
