The sign on the door read “Sold Out” and many walked away heartbroken. Luckily, I wasn’t one of them.
To say that Ill Niño put on an amazing show is an understatement. This was, by far, one of the best performances I have seen by a non-major headlining act in a very long time. In fact, Ill Niño’s live show was better than some of the major headliners I have recently seen.
The Latin-metal outfit stormed on stage with a no-holds-barred attitude. The mighty sound that erupted from the speakers threatened to blow the roof off the venue. Cristian’s powerful voice filled every crevice of the room. His bandmates hit their cues with precision, which gave the songs a professional edge and provided a whole new meaning to the word “talented”. The band effectively maintained a high level of energy from one song to the next. Ill Niño’s road experience is apparent in their tight structure. These seasoned entertainers played to the crowd as if they’ve done so for years, which was reflected in their ability to hold their audience for every moment of each note.
Ill Niño rocked the house as they ripped through tracks from Revolution/Revolución. Dave Williams (vocalist/ Drowning Pool) and Dino (guitarist/ex-Fear Factory) joined the sextet on stage for a riveting performance of Soul Fly’s “Eye for an Eye”. I’ve never seen Dino play the guitar with such a fierce intensity. It was like he was possessed by demons.
Ill Niño ended their explosive set with “Liar,” and left the crowd hungry for more. I highly recommend catching these guys this band if they play in or anywhere near your town. It’s worth every dollar spent. –Nikki Neil
