Dredg @ The Roxy

Hollywood, CAJune 29, 2002

This summer The BiteMe! Squad was fortunate enough to catch a stellar performance by Interscope recording artist, Dredg.  The San Jose based unit unveiled a few select cuts from their CD El Cielo

This talented and diverse young band combines Radiohead’s somberness with Tool’s heaviness.  The band’s sharp songcraft coupled with a penchant for experimentalism allows them to weave various elements from rock to jazz to ambient to drum & bass into their skillfully constructed compositions.

Live, the quartet doesn’t offer much in the technical show-off department.  Dredg’s only prop was a television monitor that projected black and white images, which correlated with the mood of each song.  It was simple, but their delivery was quite effective.

Given the shine of the material it’s evident that Dredg knows their instruments well.  The quartet is very comfortable on stage.  Being at ease with their surroundings allowed Gavin (vocals), Drew (bass), Mark (guitar), and Dino (drums), to connect warmly and intimately with the audience.  Their passion, talent, and energy kept the audience riveted to the stage from the first song to the last.  -NIN
